MEMORIAL DAY - REMEMBERING FREEDOMS & DREAMS
Any person who steps into a leadership role has a duty to lead by example if they expect others to trust, follow, or respect them; our military men and women practice this leadership quality. If we as civilians could learn one character trait from our military perhaps it would be the ability to demonstrate our commitment to our country and to each other. We must demonstrate that we’re accountable for our behaviors, actions, and decisions. As leaders of people who are depending on our direction it is our responsibility to focus on what we can do to continually improve ourselves and those whom we interact with regardless of their rank, position title, gender, race, religion, ethnic background, or skin color.
In Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “I Have a Dream” speech he referred to our constitution when he spoke these words: “I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed; We hold these truths to be self evident that all men are created equal”. This dream becomes reality when we lead by example one person at a time.
And here we are, another Memorial Day, so let’s remember who we’re celebrating, those who made the greatest sacrifice to secure our freedoms and dreams.
