An Unexpected St. Valentine’s Day Gift

A good friend died today, not spoken to him in years, it came as a surprise.

Mom called early in the week, said he had aggressive cancer, diagnosis was grim, maybe three months at best; God would take him on His time.

Today gifts of flowers and chocolates disguised in boxes of hearts will be presented between us as expressions of love.  But a different love was extended to my friend and brother today, it was Mercy.

A loving God sent an angel who placed a single drop of oil on my friends head and in that moment his pain stopped and his earthly body fell asleep; but also in this moment his anointed body was restored and so he sits at Gods table with his dad and brothers - forever.  A beautiful St. Valentines gift given.

PS, save me a seat at the table.
